October Student of the Month


    Matt Boucher, son of Dave and Ginny Boucher, is the October student of the month. Matt was selected from a group of students nominated by the faculty.  The selection committee consists of several high school teachers and the principal.

     Matt, a senior at HSHS, is an accomplished student, athlete, and musician.  Matt has been on the High Honor Roll every semester.  He is involved in many school activities including National Honor Society (President), Future Business Leaders of America (Treasurer), Red Crush (Spirit group), and Math team.  Matt has played tuba in the school band for four years and is a member of the chorus and Mallard Ensemble.  He has received Division I or II medals in contest in either vocal or instrumental every year.  Matt has also enjoyed playing major roles in each of the school’s fall plays.

     Matt is a four-year member of the golf team.  As a senior, he won the Streator Bulldog Invitational and the Kewanee Boiler Invite and was medalist in six different matches.  He placed 6th overall in this year’s Regionals, 6th in Sectionals and has advanced to the IHSA State Golf Tournament for the second straight year.  Matt is a four year member of the basketball team, playing varsity three of his four years. 

     Matt has volunteered at Stronghold Day Camp for several years and supports River Valley Players through backstage work at their productions.  He also works backstage at the H-S Grade School plays.  In addition, Matt enjoys performing in the Marshall-Putnam-Stark Summer Show Choir and tutoring.   After graduating, Matt plans to attend college to study Business.

     At the October school board meeting on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, Matt will be presented an engraved pen set from the Henry-Senachwine Education Association and a personalized plaque from the district designating him as “Student of the Month”.  In addition, he will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Heartland Bank in Henry and a $10.00 savings bond from the Henry Dairy Queen. The student body, faculty and the community congratulate Matt on receiving this honor in recognition of his accomplishments.
