Kaya Kelly, daughter of Hollie Koch and Brian Kelly, has been named May student of the month at Henry-Senachwine High School. Kaya was selected from a group of students nominated by the faculty and staff. The selection committee for student of the month consists of several HSHS teachers and the principal.


Throughout her four years of high school, Kaya has been active in the school district. She is a member and treasurer of National Honor Society, member and secretary of the Lady Mallards Athletic Club, and has held a class officer position all four years. Kaya has served in numerous community service activities, including the Red Cross blood drive for the last two years. She has also rang bells to raise money for troops and participated in a canned food drive.


Kaya has been a dedicated athlete. She was a two year member of cross country and a four year member of track & field. Kaya has received numerous medals and ribbons in cross country and track.


Not only does Kaya take part in extracurricular activities, but she is committed to academics. She has proven this by making High Honor Roll, being in the Top Ten in her class all four years, and being in the Top Five her senior year. After graduation, Kaya will go to Illinois Central College’s dental hygiene program to become a dental hygienist.


At the school board meeting on May 15, 2019, Kaya will be presented with an engraved pen set from the Henry-Senachwine Education Association and a personalized plaque from the district designating her as “Student of the Month”. In addition, she will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Heartland Bank in Henry and a $10.00 savings bond from the Henry Dairy Queen.


The student body, faculty and community congratulate Kaya on receiving this honor in recognition of her accomplishments and contributions at HSHS.
