HSHS December, 2017 Student of The Month

     Gavin Smith is the son of Tim and Angie Smith and has been named December Student of the month at Henry-Senachwine High School.  Gavin was selected from a group of students nominated by the faculty. The selection committee consists of several high school teachers and the principal. Gavin Resides in Henry with his parents. He has two older brothers, Gabe Smith and Graham Smith.

     Gavin has been involved in many activities throughout his four years of high school.  He is a member of Student Council, FBLA, Math Team, FCCLA, MDWAP, FCA and Red Crush. He has also been a member of the basketball, baseball and golf teams. In baseball Gavin was named to the Tri-County All Conference First Team in 2016 and Tri-County All Conference Second Team in 2017.  Gavin represented HSHS at the HOBY leadership conference in 2016.

     Gavin has received recognition for his academic dedication by being inducted into the National Honor Society his junior year and most recently by being named an Illinois State Scholar. Outside of school, Gavin has played travel baseball during the summer, while also working as a groundskeeper for the Henry Summer Recreation program. In addition to his extracurricular activities, Gavin also focuses on giving back to the community.  Throughout his high school years, he has been a member and past captain of the HSHS Relay for Life Team.  He has also volunteered for the Red Stocking program, Project Success, and as an assistant baseball coach for the Henry Summer Recreation program.

     After graduation Gavin plans to attend Illinois State University majoring in Finance. At the school board meeting on December 19, 2017, Gavin will be presented with an engraved pen set from the Henry-Senachwine Education Association and a personalized plaque from the district designating him as “Student of the Month”.  In addition, he will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Heartland Bank in Henry and a $10.00 savings bond from the Henry Dairy Queen. The student body, faculty and community congratulate Gavin on receiving this honor in recognition of his accomplishments and contributions at HSHS.
